The Sunflower Cluster of Dog Shows also offers:
Canine Good Citizen Test (Saturday)
Lure Coursing (Friday-Saturday-Sunday)
A Canine Good Citizen or CGC test is valuable because passing this test demonstrates that your kooiker is capable of basic obedience and behaving in a friendly manner around other dogs and people. Astro and Clanci will probably test at this show.
Lure Coursing is a performance event where your kooikerhondje can demonstrate its ability to hunt by sight. In a Lure Coursing test, the dog will chase a white plastic bag on a pulley system for several hundred yards. Most kooikers love and excel at Lure Coursing. I plan to enter Finn, Lukas, and Lucy in this event.
Kooikerhondje can also participate in Barn Hunt Tests at the Sunflower Cluster. This will be a new event for me and for my kooikers. I am thinking of letting Finn and Lucy give it a try.
American Portuguese Podengo Mediogrande Club Open Show
Berger Picard Club of America Open Show
The Sunflower Cluster, held in Wichita Kansas is offering 2 Open Shows this year. Kooikerhondje 4 months old and up can compete in Open Shows. I plan to attend. The question is, which of my kooikers do I enter? Pictured above is Lukas at about 18 months.
Beylka is a now 4 year old offspring of Lucy living in Canada. Hope you enjoy this video of her playing “Fetch and Release”.
Finn is multi-talented. At just a few days past 2 years, he has earned both Fly Ball and Agility titles. FlyBall is a sport where a team of 4 dogs runs a relay race, jumping 4 hurdles, hitting a box that releases a tennis ball, catching the ball in their mouth and racing back over the hurdles. The team races against the clock as well as against another team of dogs.
Finn competed in 2 classes, Novice Standard a performance event where the dog, directed by his human partner, must complete a course consisting of jumps, an A-frame, tunnels, weave polls, etc…, running against the clock and Novice Jumpers with Weaves. Novice Jumpers with Weaves is a course consisting of only jumps, tunnels and weave polls. The dog must qualify 3 times in each event to earn a title.
NA stands for Novice Agility.
NAJ stands for Novice Agility Jumpers.
FDCH-S is a Fly Ball title, Fly Ball Dog Champion Silver.
Lucy earned a Double Q on Saturday at the South Texas Agility Club trial. A Double Q, means she qualified in both Master Standard and Master Jumpers with Weaves in the same day. On Sunday, she did agreat job as well. She Qualified with a second place in Jumpers with Weaves. In her Standard run, I directed her in to the wrong entrance to the tunnel , resulting in a NQ or non-qualifying score. At the Master level, no mistakes are allowed. The American Kennel Club now recognizes Fly Ball titles. Finn has earned his Fly Ball Dog Champion-Siver title as a member of K-9 Kommotion.
